A GROUP of Bridgwater College students left land to sail a tall ship to France and back over six days.

For a treat, the first year foundation degree Public Services with Outdoor Education students got to sail a 62ft ship called Morning Star.

The vessel is owned and run by the Morning Star Trust, which offers adventure sailing trips and practical training courses for all ages and abilities.

The students were delighted to sail her from Chatham, Kent, across to Boulogne and back to Portsmouth via Chichester, Sussex, over six days.

They covered over 300 nautical miles, the final leg lasted an exhausting 26 hours and they picked up vital sailing skills from experts along the way.

“This was a brilliant experience that I would recommend to anyone doing this course” and “the trip brought the team closer together and helped us work better as a team”, were among students’ comments.
