Chichester High School For Boys - A Story of Success

Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting Tracey Waller, Business and Enterprise Co-ordinator at Chichester High School for Boys.

With their strap line of Excellence and Equity, this specialist Business and Enterprise College aims to offer each pupil a wide and varied range of experiences, designed to expand their business skills and to make them aware of the wider opportunities which exist vocationally.

One of the ways in which Tracey, with the support of the school, is working to make sure that pupils are kept up to date with such opportunities, is the creation of a Facebook page, which has been formed specifically for former pupils to update the school on the career paths that they have chosen.

The page is extremely busy as current pupils have also begun to join in order to ask for advice and create networks within the career area that they are interested in. The page provides a morale boost to the students, as they have real proof that the hard work they are putting in now, will pay off.

Excitingly, the page features astronaut in training, Major Timothy Peake who was a former pupil of the school and who in 1999, proudly came back to visit and name the Tim Peake Sports and Conference Centre.  A great inspiration and proof that the impossible can be achieved.

Innovative new ideas such as this are clearly proving to be successful as the schools GCSE and A-Level results were certainly worth boasting about this year. With 98% of Year 13 students gaining an A level pass and 65% achieved at A* to C grades, Head Teacher Gavin Salvesen-Sawh was absolutely delighted for all of his pupils and teachers.

GCSE results were also excellent and higher than all of the performance benchmarks which had been set. 70% of pupils attained 5+ A* - C grades which is a record for the school.
