Exciting New Eco-Community in Graylingwell, Chichester

A new environmentally friendly community in Chichester has begun
-
Photovoltaic roof
to come together and conversions of the historic Victorian hospital
buildings are to be unveiled next week.
The unveiling will take place on a special preview evening and
then on March 19th and 20th, the public will be invited
to take a look at the new homes and tour the area. 40 families have already
moved in to the Graylingwell Park development located just north of the city
centre, with more families to follow through the year.
Future plans for the development of the community include an allotments
facility, a community hall to be built next to Graylingwell Chapel which
Immanuel Church have recently moved into, a school, a farm shop, artists’
studios and an orchard. The Chichester Community Development Trust will take
ownership and management of the facilities.
One key aspect of the community is its desires for “green living”.
The development will include such things as carbon neutral footprint which will
reduce CO2 emissions by 100%; photovoltaic roof panel on some houses to reduce
energy consumption; a brand new energy centre providing all heating and hot
water and a number of other eco-highlights.
It certainly all sounds like a
great thing for the wider city and an exciting prospect. Tony and Sue Webster
who moved to the new community last year after living in Surrey for over 40
years are very complimentary of the site and the area. Mrs Webster said: “There’s
so much for us to do in the area. We plan to use the local swimming pool, play
bowls and go to Chichester Festival Theatre. And being so close to the city
centre there are all those lovely shops to enjoy and restaurants to enjoy. Wittering
is only five miles away so it’s easy to pop down to the caravan and beach in
the summer.”
Mrs Webster seems to sum up the area brilliantly for me and it
certainly looks like this new development is really going to be a blessing to
the city. What do you think about it all? Are you considering looking around
the area yourself? Maybe you are a local and are unhappy with all the
developments going on? Let us know whatever you think.

Green living is the way forward and it will be interesting to see how this project progresses and how the residents get on living day to day with 'eco' friendly products.

ReportI can certainly see why it's not ideal for some the current locals but I agree that on the whole it seems to be a great addition to the city.
