Firstly I agree that West Wittering is a beautiful place, largely unchanged for many years and walks along the beach are a great way of relaxing and enjoying the scenery. With regard to your comment about the cost of the car park however, I would just like to mention a little appreciated fact, that a permanent team of employees work tirelessly all year round to maintain the beach and the surrounding area, cutting grass and hedgerows, maintaining footpaths, collecting litter, shifting tons of sand that drift up the beach etc so that we can all enjoy its beauty.
Also, as a resident, who lives "at the top", please spare a thought for us as we have to live throughout the summer with the many cars that are often dumped on pavements, grass verges, over driveways etc. I'm not suggesting that that is what you do but it does happen!
The Witterings is such a lovely beach, gorgeous both in the day and the evening if you like watching the sunset, I often drive down there as its such a short distance from Chichester and yet it feels like you are miles away! Its so sandy and great to go for walk on or just to chill in the sun. A very big beach, but on really sunny days you are best avoiding driving down as everyone else will be doing the same. The only downside is the cost of the car park, but if you dont mind a walk down to the beach, you can park up at the top for free!
