The best Chrismas venues and menus in Chichester

‘Tis (almost) the season to be jolly and whilst you might not be quite ready to start decorating the tree, you might well be starting to think about planning a ‘bit of a do’.

Whether you are organising the office party, a family get together or would simply like to join the festive fun in a welcoming environment, you will certainly be spoiled for choice with the huge variety of venues and menus in and around Chichester. I have listed some of my favourites below, but as always, if you know of a real treasure that I have missed, I would love to hear about it. The Chichester Park Hotel are hosting Christmas parties on every Thursday, Friday and Saturday throughout December, starting the evening with drinks in the club bar, before moving on to a delicious 3 course meal and finally getting into the festive spirit with a disco until 1am. The cost of the evening is £30.95 per person.
The Goodwood Hotel is also dusting off its dancing shoes for the festive party nights which will include mouth-watering food served in the Cedar Suite, crackers and party poppers galore and a disco until midnight. The selection of cosy bars also provides the perfect setting to wind down the evening with a brandy or coffee. Party Nights are offered on the following dates: 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th, 16-18th December and cost: £32.50 per person from Sunday to Thursday and £42.50 per person on Friday and Saturday.
For those wishing to celebrate the festive season with good food, good company and wonderfully warm and unique setting, then you will be spoiled for choice with Chichester’s bountiful supply of restaurants offering Christmas menus.
The Crown and Anchor at Dell Quay have already introduced their tempting Christmas menu which is available up until 24th December and is priced at £21.95 for three courses. They also have a special and extremely decadent Christmas Day menu (priced at £44.95 per adult), if you fancy letting someone else do the cooking for you on the day itself. This pub is absolutely delicious in the winter, with the huge bay windows gazing out onto the dark waters and the crackling fires warming your body and your soul. A perfect setting for your Christmas celebration.
The newly opened Brasserie Blanc, one of a chain of restaurants owned by Michelin Star Chef Raymond Blanc, will be serving a delicious and reasonably priced Christmas menu from 1st – 24th December. Three courses cost £25.50 and include dishes such as Robert Caldecott of Holly Farm's roast turkey breast, chestnut stuffed boned thigh, slow roasted vegetables, bread sauce, and Port gravy, served with carrot and swede mash, Brussel sprouts & almonds and Chocolate marquise terrine with praline sauce – all topped off with coffee an mince pies. Really looking forward to trying that one!
No12 will be decking their halls with glitter and cheer from the 1st December and have designed a special festive menu for the holiday season. Their menu is priced at 2 Courses £20.00 or 3 Courses £25.00 and feature scrumptious dishes including Tranche of Halibut served on Chive Mashed Potato with Wilted Spinach and Baby Carrots finished with a Sorrel and Noilly Prat Sauce and Beef Wellington served with Dauphinoise Potatoes and a Juniper Infused Jus. This restaurant is modern and contemporary and has a real buzz about it. Relaxed and informal, yet lively and interesting.
For something a little bit different, Cloisters Café at Chichester Cathedral is celebrating with a delicious Christmas lunch and dinner menu, set in the most stunning surroundings. The café itself has a breathtaking view of the Cathedral Spire through its glass ceiling and a pretty walled garden. The Christmas lunch menu is priced at Two Courses £14.95/Three Courses £16.95 and offers tempting morsels such as Oven Roasted Fillet of Salmon on a bed of braised fennel, served with a vanilla sauce and Leek and Goats Cheese Filo Tart drizzled with a basil oil, whilst the dinner menu is priced at two courses with coffee £19.95/Three courses with coffee £22 and features irresistible mouthfuls including Breast of Pheasant Rolled in crushed Hazelnuts, pan fried, served on a bed of wilted spinach with a Madeira cream sauce and Fillet of Sea
Why not book a two course seasonal lunch for £15 per person at The Lime Café within the stunning Fishbourne Roman Palace. Your table with be adorned with decorations and crackers and you will have the opportunity to enjoy dishes such as Poached Salmon with Dill Crushed Potatoes and Lobster Veloute or Deconstructed Mediterranean vegetable and Feta Cheese Wellington served with seasonal Leaves and Mint Vinaigrette. Dates run throughout December and January (excluding 24th, 25th, 26th, 31st December and 1st January). Full party packages and themed events are also available upon request.
The Spotted Cow at Hunston never fails to impress with its locally sourced and wonderfully home cooked food and promises to make Christmas Day lunch particularly special with its cosy, traditional surroundings and roaring fire. Or why not try The Walnut Tree whose Christmas Day lunch menu is priced at £60 per head and boasts the most delicious variety of dishes including Gressingham duck, rack of lamb and grilled fillet of sea bass. The décor is traditional and cosy and feels as though you have stepped into your favourite Aunties sitting room.
After all that, I am starting to feel quite Christmassy – and a bit peckish actually. Now where did I hide that selection box?
