It is no little known fact that gym memberships boom every January as we seek to get rid of the Christmas pounds and make a new start for fitness in the new year. With this being the long awaited London Olympic year there is even more desire for fitness so I have done a short list of places that will help you in Chichester to achieve your goals.

The Chichester District Council-owned Westgate Leisure Centre seems a good place to start. Westgate has a very impressive range of activities as well as an equally impressive variety of courses for people of all ages. The centre has a leisure swimming pool as well as its main pool and they have designated times for various activities so if you want to focus on doing some lengths, then you won't be put off.

The other main leisure centre in Chichester is Nuffield Health at Chichester Gate. Nuffield is a pretty luxurious centre that has everything from the things you expect such as a Swimming Pool and a fully equipped gym to the less common attractions such as free wi-fi and a relaxation spa.

Looking more specifically now, as the Australian Open has begun, perhaps the best way for you to get fit is to get playing a specific sport such as Tennis. If you are not yet by any means a Tennis pro, then CS Tennis Academy may well be the place for you to get fitter. You may be watching the Aussie Open on your sofa and feeling really motivated to actually give this game a go yourself? If so, then I suggest lessons are the place to start and CS Tennis Academy will provide them with some very experienced teachers.

Another approach to fitness might be to get yourself a personal trainer. Perhaps you need someone else to motivate you (like I do)? If so, Total Function Personal Training will certainly provide that service! Total function is a slightly different but equally effective concept in personal training that specifies in personal training that improves your function and the condiition of your body through the most advanced training techniques.

Finally, while it may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you consider how to get fitter and healthier, playing golf might be just the thing you need. Chichester Golf Club is one of a number of golf clubs in Chichester that could help you on your way to greater fitness in the knowledge that golf consists of plenty of walking and carrying heavy clubs.

Well I hope you can stick to your goals for better health and fitness and that this list might assist you somewhat in your attempt to reach those goals! Happy exercising!

These are great ideas - makes me want to get up off the sofa and stop watching Eastenders and go for a run!

Golf is certainly my route to getting/keeping fit! A day on the course is pretty tiring!
