As any parent will tell you exam season can be a particularly stressful time of year for young people hoping to do well in their GCSE’s or school tests. However, a new study conducted on local Chichester students has revealed one of the keys to achieving good exam results.

The research found that drinking plenty of water before and during school tests and exams can improve performance.

Ten students from Chichester High School for boy’s sixth form and Chichester college were asked to take part in 90 minutes of hard exercise before being presented with problem solving and reaction tests. The boys brains were scanned soon after revealing that they performed less well in conditions in which their bodies were overheated or lacking essential fluids- impairing their neural responses.

The research from the Sport and Exercise Department at the University of Chichester has been published in the Medical Journal “Human Brain Mapping”.
