Wonderful News! Chichester will shine again this Christmas.
This morning on BBC1 local TV news, I heard that an anonymous business man has pledged to pay any oustanding amount in order to ensure we have Christmas lights in the city centre this year. After Chichester Council announced that it did not have the funds to soley support the lighting this year and instead would be asking local businesses to raise £14 000 towards it, it seemed as though the streets of Chichester would remain dark this Christmas. However, this generous offer has ensured the glamour and sparkle will be back to bring a little festive cheer. Thank you for your kind gesture, it is much appreciated.

I have since heard that the council have rejected the generous offer, due to what they describe as 'too many conditions attached to the donation'.
I think that this is a really poor show and cannot believe that we really are not going to have any lights in the city this Christmas.
With the low morale brought about by the recession, I think that things like this are so important both to show that the council care about its residents and also to ensure shops and businesses are successful in this important time in the retail calender.
