Pupils of Younghusband Primary School were visited by Chichester Districts Council's Parking Services Manager, Robert Clark, and Civil Enforcement Officer, RIchard Burle as they learned why enforcements is so important on roads and in car parks.

As part of a school project, year 3 pupils asked questions about car parking in the district. Mr Clark explained to them how parking correctly helps to keep both children and adults safe. He said how people parking in the wrong places can block streets and cause congestion which can be dangerous in an emergency.
Mr Burle told the pupils of the necessity of issuing parking tickets and then showed the them how to use a hand-held issuing machine. The pupils were then allowed to print out tickets and then they very much enjoyed (as one can imagine) putting the tickets on their teachers' windscreens.
Robert says: "This was a great chance to explain to the children about why enforcement is important around the district. We don't get any joy out of issuing parking tickets, however the children found out the reasons why sometimes we need to issue them. We always try to inform first, rather than issue a Penalty Charge Notice.
"We hope the children enjoyed the visit as much as we did. They came up with some fantastic questions for us which we enjoyed answering."
What do you think about some of the parking in Chichester? Compared to some places I have seen a lot worse but I do come across some awful and obstructive parking from time to time. Feel free to comment on anything this story might have made you think of.

But it is incredibly annoying when students and commuters (and even parents doing the school run) park in residential areas on the outskirts of the city so they don't have to pay for parking meaning residents have to park a long way away from their homes.

ReportI agree - people seem to get annoyed very quickly when it comes to parking!

ReportOne thing I find about parking in Chichester is that people are incredibly possessive over "their parking space" even when the space is just on the side of a road and doesn't belong to anyone.
