A pre-Christmas operation from Chichester police to help combat thieves over the Christmas period has been hailed a success!
The operation was designed to combat thieves in every way from detecting them to arresting them as well as disrupting general criminal behaviour in the hope that all this will be thievery in Chichester a less attractive prospective to the criminals.
It ran from 10 to 15 December inclusive, and including late night shopping days. There were officers dressed in regular clothing as well as officers dressed in uniform and PCSOs. Over the course of the six days police made 20 arrests for any of the following: conspiracy to commit burglary; theft; possession of a bladed pointed article; being wanted on warrant; possession of controlled drugs; public order; abstracting electricity, and drunkenness offences.
Sergeant Peter Higgins said; "This was very much a team effort, with our Neighbourhood Police Support, Chichester City and local Response officers taking part. I have already received messages of thanks and congratulations form the local community. During the operation there were no thefts from handbags. The local street drinkers and criminals were given a clear message that their criminal and anti social behaviour Will not be tolerated and as the week progressed we saw far less of them around the city.
"The good work done on this operation will be continued throughout the rest of this year."
What do you think about Operation Tinsel? Do you consider to be a success? Maybe you wonder why it only lasted six days? Let us know whatever you think!

I was going to say that 6 days seems pretty short but I guess it was a trial and they will do more next year?
