As part of a new plan that will determine the future of the district until 2028 residents will be asked where homes should be located and how many.

Chichester District's Full Council officially back the programme this Tuesday 19 July and will produce a document for residents to comment on. The document is set to be available to download from the council's website (chichester.gov.uk) from August 26 this year and residents will then have until 23 September to leave your thoughts and comments.

The document will ask residents how many houses you feel should be built and where exactly you think they should be built. It wlll also provide 5 different options for development:

1. a concentration of development at Chichester City and Tangmere;

2. development spread across the area with a focus on Chichester City;

3. development spread across the area with a focus on Tangmere;

4. a combination of options one to three; and

5. a combination of all locations (this will only be necessary if the highest level of housing development is chosen).

Other things that will be considered are the impact on Chichester Harbour; traffic congestion; flood risk problems and the capacity of the Apuldram and other Waste Water Treatment Works.

The council claim that the most significant reason for needing more housing is that our population of older people is rising as our populationn of young people is sinking. Young people are needed to help the economy as well as to help support their parents and grandparents. Other reasons the council gives are that there are 5,000 people on their housing register; that the different types of people living in the district need to be considered in order to create housing that meets their needs and that there is a large number of people living alone.

What are your thoughts on the council looking for your opinions on comments on housing in Chichester? I know many people have their opinions and it seems good that the council are asking them to voice them. Feel free to leave your opinions herse.

    This looks like a great plan and it's good to know the age old problems of Chichester such as the congestion and flood risk problems are being considered.
