Chichester Watersports Centre in Westhampnett have officially opened their new fullly licensed bar.

The bar is located in a brand new unique design wave-shaped building which was built from 80% recycled materials. The building, as well as housing a fully licensed bar, has new toilet and shower facilities to offer.

As well as being useful for users of the Watersports Centre, the building, which has been gradually taking shape for the last year, will also be hired out for events. It certainly should prove to be a popular location to use for parties and such like considering it's spectacular view over the 40-acre lake either from a large window or from the balcony.

The business was taken over by two couples, Dave and Alison Parker and Lee and Julie Duggio six years ago and has been growing gradually ever since.

Mr Parker was the key man in designing the building and he also works in the recyclying industry. He said: "It will be nice to see the local community making use of it, and we hope schools, colleges, and disabled persons can also make use of it."

"We designed it togetherr with a lot of input from the Chichester planning authority.

"I'm in the recycling industry and I have a particular interest in recycling."

The recycled building is not all the Chichester Watersports Centre are doing to help the environment. The are also seeking to introduce a wind turbine at the site in order to make the most of the strong winds that blow across the lake as well as utilising methane gas which is present at the neighbouring disused landfill site.

In time, the centre is hoping to be 100% energy self sufficient.

What do you think of the new building and the direction that Chichester Watersports Centre is taking? Feel free to leave your thoughts!
