The old equipment has been has been removed and replaced with longer lasting concrete features which include:
a half pipe with wide platforms;
jump box;
long block;
transition ledge;
flat hip;
long rail;
a quarter pipe; and,
lots more features for bikes, blades, and boarders to explore.
In celebration of the new skate park. Chichester District Council have teamed up with ESP Skate Shop to organise a 'Jam' event on Sunday 25 September 2011. The event will begin at 10am and seperate competitions will take place for bikes, blades and boards and their will be prizes as well as a few freebies. It is a free event and registration will take place on the day. Under 16s will require parental consent and helmets and pads are compulsory.
Jamie Stenner owns ESP Skate Shop in Chichester and he is also a professional roller blader and is responsible for championing the project. Through working with skaters across the district he was able to secure funding for the project from Youth Opportunities. The Leisure and Wellbeing Team at the council then got involved in seeking to get further funding from the SITA Trust to make sure the project could go ahead.
Jamie says: "It's always been great to have a local park that we can go to, but the old skate park needed to be modernised. We worked with Freestyle Skate Parks, who designed and fitted the concrete features, to come up with something that people of all skills and abilities could use. We're really pleased with how it has turned out and look forward to lots of people being able to enjoy it."
The project has taken around 12 weeks to complete but it is all done now so all there is to do is get down there and practising for the big event on 25 September!
P.S. Keep eyes peeled on Chichester People for a photo gallery of the new skate park!
