Friday 9 to Sunday 11 September this year will prove to be an exciting weekend for Chichester as we celebrate culture, heritage, sport and food and the glory of it all is that everything is free!

The events that will run are:

Food Fare

Become a Roman soldier

City Walls illuminations

Get Active Festival

The Food fare will run from the Friday to the Sunder on East Street and North Street. There will be a great array of foods on offer from specialist chesses to fresh vegetables from local suppliers. It will run from 9am to 5pm on Friday and Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

One thing from this weekend I will be particularly excited about is the opportunity on Saturday to try on replica Roman armour! I personally have a great fascination with the Romans and love to explore and admire everything about them. There will also be a chance to take part in a mini dig at The Guildhall in Priory Park and this event will run from 10am to 4pm.

That evening also has what is sure to be a wonderful event at the award-winning Bishop's Palace Gardens. Bring a picnic along from 7.30pm to 9.30pm where you will be joined by a light display on our City Walls. On top of this there will aso be lanterns in the pond, chandelier lights in the trees and live music!

Finally, the weekend will be rounded off by the ever popular Get Active Festival on the Sunday. This event will offer a range of free sports and activities from a climbing wall to fencing to training as a clown for the day. Get Active will be a Oaklands Park in Chichester from 12pm to 4pm.

There is undeniably something for everyone there then and it looks to me to be a great event from Chichester District Council. Which of the events appeal to you most?

I am most excited about the Get Active Festival - I have always wanted to give fencing a go!
