A joint operation from the Sussex Police and West Sussex
Fire and Rescue Service saw 73 drivers being stopped for speeding this Tuesday
(May 24) on the A285 at Duncton near Chichester.
The speed limit through Duncton is 30mph due to the thin and
windy roads but over the course of just one day every single one of the 73
drivers were travelling over 40mph. The fastest recorded speed through the
village was a huge 57mph – almost twice the legal speed!!
An agreement was arranged on the day that drivers not
exceeding 45mph were given two options to choose from: either accept a speeding
fine or spend 15 minutes watching a West Sussex Fire and Rescue educational
video detailing the dangers and consequences of speeding. As you have probably
guessed, a large majority of the speeders opted to watch the video which came
with some very stern words of advice from the local Neighbourhood Policing
Team. Only seven drivers were booked for their speeding crimes with a fine of
£50 and three points on their driving licence.
What do you think about this joint effort from Sussex Police
and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service? Is it enough or is it too much? Maybe
you live in a similar village and are tired of people driving through the roads
at high speeds? Do you think more people should have had to pay a fine? Feel
free to comment and let us know whatever you think.

In one sense I cannot believe that as many as 73 drivers were stopped in one single day but in one sense I am not surprised at all as I, like everyone else see numerous cars speeding through little villages and hopefully this will help some to realise the danger of that.
