192 was the final figure of arrests that were made during Sussex Police's Christmas drink-drive campaign.

Whether you consider that number to be great or small, it is likely that you will consider the figure of 7,253 to be fairly great and this was the number of people breathalysed during the campaign which ran from 14 November until New Year. These numbers are compared to 176 arrests made last year and 6,501 tests.

One particularly clumsy arrest of this year's campaign saw a man arrested for being over the limit when he arrived to collect his mother-in-law who had been in custody for (yep! you guessed it...) drink driving! He was breath tested and blew 39 - technically over the 35mg to 100ml of breath limit, but just within the charging limit. He was released without charge and a new understanding of just how little alcohol it takes to send you plummeting towards a fine and a ban.

There was also a 38 year old driving instructor arrested for being under the influence while supervising a learner.

What do you make of the campaign? Consider it a success?

I suppose if they are making arrests it is a success in one sense but ideally the campaign would have such an effect that they wouldn't need to make any arrests.
